WSI-OR Celebrates Women's History Month

Wackenhut Services, Inc. - Oak Ridge recently celebrated Women's History Month with a program featuring Kathy Smith, owner and President/CEO of NetGain Corporation.

Smith discussed her more than 30 years of experience in the security industry - in both government service and the private sector - as well as starting her own business. Since 1999, NetGain has grown into a multi-million dollar company and has earned numerous awards.

Following her presentation, WSI-OR General Manager Jean Burlison presented Smith with a framed copy of a recent magazine feature on her and her company. Congratulations to program organizers Burlison, Courtney Henry, Priscilla Kingry and Cheryl Robie.

WSI featured in Business Excellence magazine

Wackenhut Services Inc. Chief Operating Office Paul Donahue was recently interviewed for a story on WSI in Business Excellence magazine titled "Guns, Guards and Gates."

Donahue discusses the vital role WSI's training program and anticipating evolving customer requirements play in WSI's success.

Nevada Test Site ceremony marks DOE "Star Status" designation

Congratulations to the Wackenhut Services, Inc. - Nevada Test Site team on being recognized for the 7th consecutive year as a Department of Energy (DOE) Voluntary Protection Program "Star Status" organization. This impressive feat was celebrated during a recent ceremony at the Nevada Support Facility.

Rich Shook, ES&H section manager, and Senior SPO Darlene Smith, Employee Safety Committee Chairperson, received the "Secretary's Appreciation Award," presented to them by NNSA-NSO Site Manager Gerald Talbot, for their work in leading the remarkable WSI-Nevada Test Site team.

Rich and Darlene said their recognition and the success of the program is the result of the support by the company employees to create the safest possible workplace.

ERT officer receives civilian service award

Congratulations to Space Gateway Support/Kennedy Space Center Emergency Response Team (ERT) Officer Justin Morgan who recently received the City of Titusville's Civilian Service Award for heroic action taken while off-duty to stop a robbery.

According to his superior, SGS Chief of Security Police Eric Provost, Officer Morgan arrived at a local shopping center while a robbery was in progress. He confronted the suspect, a violent career criminal, and incapacitated him during a gunfight initiated by the suspect.

The suspect is now in custody and has been charged with a number of felonies, including attempted murder. Justin's actions eliminated the danger to those present at the time of the robbery.  

Space Gateway Support is a joint venture between Northrop Grumman and Wackenhut Services, Inc. at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and Kennedy Space Center.
